Stonework

As much as we prefer Natural Stone...

…sometimes you have to think about the bigger picture. In this case a client approached us with an idea: She wanted an apron on the end of her driveway and liked the look of Belgian Blocks that her neighbor had. We discussed at length the different factors: Labor, material cost, and maintenance (especially plowing). In the end we chose a pre-cast concrete product that offered ease of installation, cost-effectiveness, terrific strength and consistency without sacrificing that country estate look!

The client loves it, the job went quickly, and somewhere…a wall of granite remains intact.

Simple, sturdy, practical, beautiful.

This client was tired of the brittle, slippery brick walk out front and wanted a different texture to complement the new work on the porch and entry.  A simple, straight path in Sugarledge goshen stone did the trick.

Form and Function

Here we've built an outdoor fireplace for the owners to enjoy in a few ways while hanging out on their new stone patio.  They can put in the adjustable grill and barbecue dinner, or just enjoy the radiating flames.  West Stockbridge, MA.

Mix and Match…

We are so fortunate here in the Berkshires to have access to several native stones to work with.  Here we have used Pennsylvania Bluestone and Goshen stone, and incorporated some of the Limestone from the location.

Natural stone is our favorite medium.

Here the shade of a pergola above a patio is cast over fieldstone walls, bluestone steps, and a mossy boulder that rolled in with the glacier.

The moss probably came later….

Stone – enduring, elegant, and natural – is the strongest structural element in the landscape.

Our in-house staff of stone masons understands and respects this building material and it shows in their finished works.  We work with native stone as often as we can.

Here we have used irregular Pennsylvania bluestone to build a fire pit for a client in New Marlborough.
